EC ADMINISTRATION IS SET TO PROFESSIONALISE LABOUR RELATIONS MANAGEMENT

The Provincial Administration of the Eastern Cape is taking steps to strengthen and professionalise its labour relations management in 
order to build and enhance labour peace in the Public Service.

Eastern Cape Director General, Dr Mvuyo Tom, today announced that the first annual general meeting (AGM) of the Eastern Cape Public Service 
Bargaining Council (PSBC) since its establishment in 1995 would be held on Thursday this week. The meeting will be Eastern Cape Premier 
Makhenkesi Stofile is expected to officially open the meeting in the boardroom of the Department of Finance in Bisho on Thursday morning 
(09:00).

The Director General (DG) also announced that his deputy and head of the Office of the Premier Dr Peter Mayende had been appointed to lead 
a team of government negotiators as a Chief Negotiator of the State as an employer in the Bargaining Council, he said.

Dr Tom said the council has to deal with a range of challenges in the wake of the new management framework, which came into effect in July 
1999. He said the Bargaining Council would have to be more focused in providing better co-ordination of labour relations
